How
to inspire a bedroom decorating idea
This seems like it
should be so easy, right? Well, it's not so easy to figure out what
to do about your bedroom design when you have not yet inspired an
idea. How do you get a bedroom design idea? This article will
help you to streamline your bedroom design plan and put it into realistic
terms within minutes!
1. Before
deciding on colors, prints, and bedroom theme, take the time to evaluate
your bedroom. Look at your furniture. If your furniture has a
certain style to it (e.g. antique/classic, modern/contemporary), you may
apt to find a bedroom theme that goes with your furniture. If you do
not want to stick to the theme of your current furniture, consider
altering or replacing your current bedroom furniture.
2. If you want this
bedroom design to last a few years, you need to think about your lifestyle
(e.g. if you have pets, rule out colors that show pet hairs like black, or
if you have children who jump on your bed rule out delicate fabrics) to
determine what types of fabrics / prints will have durability and that is
not so trendy that you will no longer desire this a year from now.
3. Now that you know
what won't work in your bedroom design, this makes inspiring a bedroom
decorating idea much easier. Visualize what you see yourself doing
in this new bedroom design. Now, write this down. I plan
to.....read, watch T.V., do homework, be romantic, do exercise,
etc. This will be your special place to do with what you want!
Be realistic when you decide what you will be doing in this new bedroom,
consider how much space is available. Once you have your plan as to
"what you want to do in your new bedroom", make a simple sketch
of your new bedroom, mapping out your desired "activity"
areas. If you have a small room, use your space very carefully (e.g.
use walls for storage shelves instead of floor space shelves.)
4. We're almost
there, to the fun part, picking colors/prints, etc. There is
one last step to consider before implementing your plan, sketch you room
and include measurements. Write all this down, window measurements,
mattress size, pillow sizes, size of room, closet size (in case you need to
buy storage shelves / storage baskets, etc.). Also, decide how much
time and money you can spend on this project and work with a realistic
time and money budget. Keep this list in your wallet so that you
have it with you at all times in case you happen to see the perfect piece
when your out and about. Use the internet, catalogs, and shopping
malls to find colors and prints that interest you.
Upon completing steps
1-4, you have a good foundation set to implement a bedroom design idea
that will be functional, practical, and desirable to YOU, the one who will
enjoy this special new haven.
5. Considering
all of the above, pick colors/prints and bedroom theme ideas that will fit
into your lifestyle.
